During her sophomore year at Ball State University, Bryan ventured into pageantry at the suggestion of one of her professors. Her journey began in July 2008 when she clinched the title of Miss Lake Festival, followed by her participation in the 2009 Miss Ohio pageant in June 2009, where she secured the fourth runner-up position, with Erica Gelhaus taking the crown. The following year, in 2010, Bryan claimed the Miss Miami Valley title, leading her to compete in the 2010 Miss Ohio pageant in June, where she achieved the third runner-up spot, with Becky Minger winning the title.

Bryan’s success continued in October 2010 when she was crowned Miss Clayland 2011, granting her eligibility for the 2011 Miss Ohio pageant. Entering the state pageant in June 2011 as one of 26 finalists, Bryan showcased her talent by singing “Circle of Life” from Disney’s The Lion King. Her platform, advocating lightning awareness with the slogan “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors,” stemmed from a personal experience when her older sister, Christina, was struck and seriously injured by lightning on a golf course. Bryan emerged victorious on Saturday, June 18, 2011, receiving her crown from outgoing Miss Ohio titleholder Becky Minger. Throughout her pageant journey, Bryan accumulated over $10,000 in scholarship funds from the state pageant and more than $25,000 in total over her pageant career.
