The seal is sought as a mark of distinction and a recognition of the achievement in the communication of scientific information.
He is also the secretary of the LA Chapter of the AMS, a member of the National Weather Association, and a co-founder and board member of the California Weather Association. A new program, CBM, was launched in January 2005 as an upgrade to the Society’s Seal of Approval. The member of the National Weather Association earned their TV seal of approval in 2003.
Rick later published and marketed a Southern California Weather Calendar and Almanac which earned him an annual achievement award from the LA AMS.
